UNDERBRUSH: medium prints
This series of prints strive to capture the micro landscapes that one may see as they travel through the lush forests in and around Seattle. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I have always appreciated the organic geometry found in common undergrowth landscapes. These prints strive to capture the complex shapes of light and dark formed by mundane collections of trees and scrubs.
Black and white linocuts appeal to me for this series because the primitive method, combined with an analytical study of nature can come together to create complex images that rely only on the ‘on’ or ‘off’ representation of the black ink or the white paper. Having the entire image printed in one moment creates an immediate snapshot – a moment defined – of the constantly changing natural environment.
